A piece I created for an art competition in the Roses Guilds running between the 23rd of April and 15th of May focused on the theme of Spring.
The piece is made to reflect the changing of the seasons and how the world outside never truly stops at the door. As you look right-to-left in the picture, you can see how the natural world outside is gently radiating into the artifice of the home with the passing of the rain.
The piece was made in Blender and retouched in Adobe Photoshop. Rather than reflect the life-giving power of spring, I wanted to explore our relationship with the season in an urban setting.
Beginning the piece, the scene was darker. It focused on the cold of the rain piercing the home, but over time as more elements were added the feeling of cold turned to optimism and warmth - reflecting the changing of the seasons themselves. You can see my process in the gif.
Take a closer look at various parts of the image! It's crammed with detail to give the hallway a lived-in feel beyond the immediate story, such as the way the dog in its juvenile stages has gnawed at the table legs.
